Preferences: Customize the MLS to Work for You

Perform Tasks More Efficiently and Streamline Your Time. (from TRENDLINK, Volume 12, Spring 2007)

M
LS Blue's Preferences feature was designed so you can customize the MLS system to work the way you want. By setting your Preferences, you can choose how certain aspects of MLS Blue pages look and behave.

You can also edit your preferences from almost any page within the MLS. For example, if you always search for Active and Active No Showings listings, you can click the "Preferences" button on the Listings Search page.

A new window opens containing search preferences and you can make these statuses (or all statuses) your default statuses. Now every time you search, they are automatically pre-selected for you.

This allows you to work more efficiently, so you can perform tasks quickly and streamline your time on the MLS. Use My Preferences to make MLS Blue your own!

You only need to set your preferences once and from then on, you'll be able to work more efficiently on MLS Blue.

Finding Your MLS Preferences

The MLS gives you two ways to get to your Preferences:
  • Click the My Account tab then click "Preferences."
  • Click the "Preferences" button from any MLS screen. A new window opens and allows you to change your Preferences without leaving the page.

The preferences in MLS Blue are divided into sections to make them easy to find and customize. Each section relates to a particular page or section of the MLS: CMA/Flyer; Contacts; E-mail; Add/Change; MLS; Report; and Search. If you open Preferences from My Account, you'll be able to access all sections. If you open Preferences from within the MLS, you'll see only the preferences that apply to that page.

Preferences Should Be Familiar

The Preferences screen should look familiar to you because it is similar to My Profile. Both screens use navigation in the left-hand column that allows you to click the title to go to a specific section. Also, as in My Profile, displayed to the right of each field is a description of what each preference does. This should help you better understand how to set them to your liking.

Entering Default Text Saves You Time

MLS Blue preferences allow you to upload default text that you frequently use so you can easily access it over and over again. Once you have entered this text, you can load it with one click.

  • Save generic e-mail subjects, messages and signatures that you can use when contacting your prospective clients. You can save specific messages and signatures for buyers or sellers. You can also save text to use when initiating the e-mail subscription process.
  • Customize the text sent to clients in auto client matches (ACMs) e-mail when matches are found and not found.
  • Enter comments and summaries for your CMA Cover Page and Flyer.

Setting your Search Preference allows you to tailor the MLS to your specific wants.

Customizing Search and Report

Set your search and report preferences to make those parts of the MLS that you use most, work they way you want. This will allow you to focus more of your time on the listings themselves because the MLS will be tailored to your specific wants.

Using Preferences, you can:
  • Establish your own default selections for Category, County and Status. If you always search using the same county or status, you can set your default to include the ones you want.
  • Choose which report is your default when search results are displayed or printed.
  • Select how you want to sort results for each category.
  • Determine how many listings should appear per page, for each report. For full reports, you might want to consider keeping the number of listings per page low. This will help the page load faster and reduce scrolling. For the one-line reports, the number can be higher.

Other Benefits

Other important features include:
  • Easily reset all your preferences to TREND's defaults. All you have to do is click "Restore Standard Settings" to reset them.
  • Manage your communications with clients. Set your preference to have the MLS send you a copy of the e-mail you send, or notify you when a client has viewed listing information. These preferences help you stay on top of what listing information your clients have seen.

Whatever you decide, make the MLS your own!

Setting your preferences in MLS Blue, lets you tell the system how to work the way you want. You only need to set them once and from then on, you'll be able to work more efficiently on the MLS. It's a great way to make MLS Blue your own!
