Tips for Using Bright MLS Listing Numbers

To consolidate listings from many MLS systems, we need to ensure each listing has its own unique identifier. All TREND listings now have both an TREND and a Bright MLS listing number. Below are some questions and tips for using these numbers when searching for listings.

When does my listing get a Bright ID? (When will I see it?)

This number will appear after you enter a new listing in TREND. Sometimes a Bright MLS number can take a while to appear on your listing, which impacts the ShowingTime ‘Schedule a Showing’ link.

Where can I find the Bright MLS Number in the MLS?

The new Bright MLS number is available on listings within TREND search and on the Member Full report below the current MLS Number.

You can also search using the new Bright MLS number for TREND listings in the speed bar, which is available at the top of the screen within TREND search and report. The Bright numbers are not searchable within the standard MLS number search but the TREND MLS numbers is. Keep in mind that you will only be able to search listings that are within the current TREND footprint.

TIP: You can also add the Bright MLS number to your one-line displays by clicking on any column and then clicking Insert Column. Search for Bright MLS#, select it, and click Apply.

Why don’t TREND MLS numbers work in ShowingTime?

ShowingTime uses the new Bright MLS numbers instead of the TREND MLS number. If you’re adding properties to your ShowingCart directly in ShowingTime, you must use the Bright MLS number for those listings. You can locate the Bright MLS number on listings on the Member-Full report below the current MLS Number.

Do I need to start searching using only the Bright MLS number?

You can, but you don’t have to. TREND listings can still be searched by their original MLS numbers within TREND search. It’s best to be aware of both the TREND and Bright MLS numbers so that you are prepared for any inquiry you get from a client or for a search you need to do. After you convert to the Bright system, the new listings you enter will only have Bright MLS listing numbers.

TIP: If you do want to search for listings by the Bright MLS number in TREND search, you can do so by putting that number in the Speed Bar.

What MLS number will my clients see?

Some syndication sites don’t use MLS numbers for search while others do. Here’s a breakdown of popular syndication sites and which numbers they use:
    • BrightMLShomes.com lets you use the Bright MLS number and the TREND MLS number to search.
    • Realtor.com only lets you search listings using the new Bright MLS number.
    • Homesnap allows you to search by MLS number and uses the new Bright MLS number for Central PA only. You should continue to use the TREND MLS numbers if you are searching for listings by MLS number in Homesnap.
    • Zillow, Trulia and Homes.com do not use MLS numbers for search.
TIP: Because only the Bright MLS number will be searchable on some of these websites, you may want to include the new Bright number on printed or online materials that include an MLS number.

I have a listing that I reduced the price on a week and a half ago. It shows the correct address in Trend; however, the Bright MLS number has the old price, no video tour, and no condo fees. I am a Sussex County Agent and my primary Board was Sussex County, Delaware. Because my home office is in Kent, I am forced to use Trend. I live in Sussex and sell in Sussex. Bright is insistent that I can't belong to BRight MLS like my counterparts here in Sussex. I have to work twice as hard to do my job because they refuse my membership to Bright. Sussex agents do not look in trend when searching a listing AND price changes to not show in Bright.

I want to follow on to what Mellissa McKown posted. We are licensed for Pennsylvania. Rather than merge with systems covering Maryland and Delaware, would it make more sense to merge with more of Pennsylvania focused MLS's? I live in Montgomery, I would prefer to have Lehigh and Northampton over Maryland and Delaware. PS I wish we could give a thumbs-up to the comments we agree with.

In my opinion - We are licensed in the State of PA - Yet the MLS wants to limit our access! WHY?? For the amount we already pay, the entire MLS NEEDS TO BE STATE WIDE!! TREND/BRIGHT IS ALL A MONOPOLY IN ITS ENTIRETY!! TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE - WE ARE THEIR MEMBERS!!

I am seeing addresses listed twice, once with a Trend number and another with a Bright number. I have also seen some with just a Bright number. Please explain.

No one really likes change. The change from Trend to Bright MLS has its bugs but all systems do and get fixed. As for the fees, all of our fees go up anyway and we are still not paying the amount that the MRS/Bright subscribers do. They have been gradually raising our fees through the transition. Complaining doesn't help. Take advantage of the added features and make yourself more sucessful.

My relo buyers this week made a point of telling me that they thought our MLS listing interface and info for buyers was much worse than in other areas of the country where they've bought homes in the past.

I'm not a dinosaur. am somewhat tech savvy. if all real estate is "Local" why is TReND going "regional"? Please as communications Writer/Coordinator release the minutes of the TReND board meeting which lead to this "marriage" with BrightMLS. i fail to see the logic to higher fees for what appears so far to be slow and poorly integrated service. especially when we as REALTORS have a stellar RPR system at our disposal for regional real estate information. What am i missing here???

I agree with Kelli Taggart comments about the Bright MLS - this system is an embarrassment to Realtors! Thank goodness for ZILLOW - easier to find information on a listing if someone calls you then using BRIGHT!!!!
I feel BRIGHT is not a "BRIGHT" system for realtors - unless you have a "tech" background.

I'm still having a super hard time wondering why you insist on fixing systems that are not broken ..there is nothing bright about this new system..
I think the fees are outragious! we have no say on what you do to the system that we pay for. you are forcing it down our throats and we are not getting a better system.. Trend just arbitrarily makes these decisions for us..making us conform to what you feel is better.... as soon as you make changes and everybody learns those changes you decide that that's not good enough, so you need to change it again..WHY? I feel it is absolutely unacceptable and I think the incompetence of the personnel that you have over there is disgraceful... As far as I'm concerned you are not even needed.. Of course money is always an issue ,however if it's for the greater good I'm all for it. but it's not .This is just another example of trying to get money from Realtors under the disguise of necessity...just saying..in my humble opinion..

Cannot copy and paste the Bright MLS Numbers into the speed bar. Creates a longer step process to find a property which a client may forward to you.

Once our Trend numbers disappear, will we be able to look up older listings using Trend MLS numbers?
